Dr. Hume has been a faculty member in the Department of Family Medicine since 1985. She teaches therapeutics in the residency program and precepts Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) students on inpatient and FCC rotations at Memorial Hospital. She participates in the FCC diabetes medical group visits. She is a member of Phi Kappa Phi, a national honor society for teaching excellence and has received a teaching excellence award from the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University.

In 2010, she was selected Teacher of the Year at the URI College of Pharmacy. Dr. Hume’s scholarship includes pharmacoepidemiology, complementary medicine, evidence-based interprofessional education and practice, as well as geriatric and cardiovascular therapeutics. The author of over 130 publications, she is the editor of two textbooks and writes a monthly column on integrative medicine. She is a co-investigator on several AHRQ grants on e-prescribing and improving physician-patient education. In 1999, Dr. Hume was elected a Fellow of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy. She is available to help residents with projects and manuscripts, as well as to answer patient-related drug therapy questions.
