PIZZA SPICED YOGURT BAGELS

Pizza Spiced Yogurt Bagels. A simple, homemade bagel recipe that brings a pizza party to your lunchtime table.  They’re chewy and warm, wonderfully doughy, and the perfect savory canvas for all of your favorite toppings.

Forever smitten with my 5 Ingredient Yogurt Bagel recipe – a protein rich, homemade bagel alternative made with greek yogurt as its base- these Pizza Spiced Yogurt Bagels are my most recent ode to the OG. An equally as simple and nourishing yogurt based bagel packing a real pizza punch. Think all of those cheesy, saucy pizza slice flavors in one bagel bite. Like my OG recipe, these Pizza Bagels are also made with a collection of accessible pantry staples – all purpose flour, greek yogurt, marinara sauce, mozzarella and parmesan, oregano, and sun dried tomato – gently kneaded, rolled into bagels, then baked until golden and ready. They’re quintessentially chewy, warm and cheesy, savory. Everything I look for in a pizza bagel!

PIZZA SPICED YOGURT BAGELS

INGREDIENTS

¾ cup full fat Greek yogurt
½ cup marinara sauce
2 cups + 2 tbs. all purpose flour
¼ cup shredded mozzarella
2 tablespoons sun dried tomatoes, chopped
1 ½ tablespoons baking powder
½ tablespoon dried oregano
1 teaspoon salt
1 large egg, whisked
2 tablespoons grated parmesan

INSTRUCTIONS

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F, rack in the middle. Line a baking sheet with parchment or a silicone baking mat.

In a large bowl, whisk yogurt and marinara sauce. Fold in flour, mozzarella, sun dried tomato, baking powder, oregano, and salt, then remove dough from bowl and knead to combine. Dough will be sticky, but manageable with lightly floured hands and surface.

Divide dough into 6 equal balls, then shape each ball into a bagel. I’ve found this is most easily done by rolling the piece of dough into a 6” ‘snake’ then pressing the ends of the snake together to form a bagel O.

Place on prepared baking sheet then lightly brush each with whisked egg and sprinkle with parmesan. Bake for 40 minutes, until tops of bagels are golden. Cool completely before slicing and serving.

I’ve been loving these Pizza Bagels topped with traditional margarita pizza toppings – melty mozzarella, parmesan, and a sprinkle of red pepper flakes. They’d be just as delicious toasted with prosciutto and fresh arugula, a melted cheese and sautéed mushroom, or served plain straight from the sheet pan.
