After weeks of residential flux, this past weekend we moved into our new little home – a narrow and quaint two story row on the other side of town. Complete with backyard, an open kitchen, and the ebb of nocking neighbors, life has nearly settled back to ‘normal’ with us finding our groove amidst bustle. Though every inch of home feels new and even palatial- each of those 850 square feet thrilling to call our own, to style and wear in- no part of the move has been more relieving and centering than unpacking. Reclaiming touches of ‘us’ to adorn the walls and shelves, filling our kitchen with our spices and spirit, and making these four walls our four walls.
Green Chef’s Five-Spice Sweet Potato with Bun Bo Xao Dressing, Rutabaga Slaw & Scallion Rice
Having visited nearly a dozen homes before settling on ‘the one,’ I was most drawn to our new kitchen – relatively bright and open, dotted with cabinets and countertops, and facing straight into the living room. Just as much the heart as the hearth, it’s functional and welcoming, the kind of kitchen that allows for cooking and camaraderie that beckons guests to pull up a barstool and spill their beans over piping coffee. Eager to get in and get cooking, Andrew and I were welcomed by friends with toilet paper, by neighbors with cookies, and by Green Chef’s meal kit subscription service – thoughtfully packaged meals to make and love, while we settled.
After receiving a collection of vegan friendly ‘fan favorites,’ from their Miso-Herb Tofu Bowl to their Five-Spice Sweet Potato (Andrew’s personal favorite), we loved the overarching convenience. Each of Green Chef’s meals came with perfect portions and preparations of each ingredient for cooking ease and food waste reduction, and the service delivered right to our new front door. Saving us a trip to the store (not to mention time deciding what to make), each of their home-cook accessible recipes celebrated USDA-certified organic ingredients and came together in 30 minutes for nourishing, simple, and decadent meals and experiences. Accommodating vegan, vegetarian, gluten free, paleo, ketogenic, and carnivorous communities, Green Chef was welcomed treat during our move, but also a service to keep in mind for workweek ease, for intimate date nights, and for social gatherings. Our little kitchen has officially been broken in – now all we need is a table!
