I tend to find a home-away-from-home in juice bars – I suppose because I’ve spent so much of my adult life in the world of raw food – overcome by that buzzing, permeating whiff of fresh pressed juice and the color green that wakes your cells up and gives them a good solid shake hello.
With a room packed to the brim with healthful patrons, that all familiar, permeating whiff of fresh pressed juice and the color green, and a cheerful pineapple wallpaper lining the bathroom walls, Canada’s first cold-pressed juice bar, The Juice Truck, offers a local, organic, and seasonally inspired plant rich menu of fresh and cold pressed juices, smoothies, and an array of primarily raw bites and desserts. Their two locations, a brick and mortar in Mount Pleasant and a refurbished mobile truck nestled in Gastown, seek to foster a healthful and environmentally conscious Vancouver through the implementation of sustainable practices, community gatherings, and a magnetizing and altruistic energy you need/want to be part of. Menu items range from ‘The Almost Sushi’ with parsnip rice and a coconut aminos dipping sauce to ‘The Raw Cacao Coconut Bar,’ an ultra indulgent walnut, pecan, and coconut meat treat.
Though I tend to reach for the most green option on a menu, I was immediately drawn to ‘The Remedy’, sixteen ounces of fresh pressed kale, pineapple, cucumber, mint and ginger juice. After an afternoon of non-stop exploring and early summer Vancouver heat, I found a perfect balance of subtlety in sweet, salty, spicy and green. Don’t forget to check out their provisions section with local collaborations, granolas, and coconut butters for the road. Juices and smoothies range from $7.50 – $10 (Canadian).
