Welcoming 2015, one of my main nutritional priorities was to focus not only on continuing to nourishing my body [and yours!] with unprocessed plant-based foods, but to incorporate more naturally healing, inflammation reducing, and immune boosting ingredients – providing a daily dose of preventative medicine. There are few foods I’m more drawn to than turmeric – a fresh root as magically and shockingly golden and warming as the sun with slightly bitter and peppery notes of orange and ginger. The perfect addition to nourishing curries, stews, and soothing teas, turmeric’s gold, resulting from it’s primary ingredient curcumin, is known for it’s rich antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, wound healing, pain reducing, digestive aiding, and detoxifying properties – a true medicinal superhero in the world of superfoods. Comparable to a humbly sweet yet subtly spicy apple cider, today I am so excited to share one of my [all time] favorite juice combinations, my Spicy Apple Turmeric Juice. This simple raw juice combination, made with fresh ginger and bright lemon, is the perfect apple elixer to keep that doctor away.
Sunshine Juice – Spicy Apple Turmeric Juice [makes 4 servings]
4 large apples [I used Gala apples]
2 lemons, peeled
2-4 inch knob fresh ginger [depending on desired spice]
2 inch knob fresh turmeric
Run all ingredients through your juicer, being sure to alternate between juicy lemon and tougher ginger and turmeric. Pour juice into your favorite glass (perhaps over ice!), serve, and enjoy!
