THE 52ND GATHERING– bringing together recipes, people and stories from around the world- is founded on the premise of positive thinking, holistic and natural living, and the communal table // be it a recurring potluck, or just one weekend of the 52 this calendar year spent sipping lavender tea, the act of consciously gathering- of sharing a meal, a conversation, a moment- is cause for celebration.
Since launching In My Bowl early last November, words can’t articulate how much my world has evolved, how present the prospect of helping change the world (in some small way) has become. In My Bowl slowly grew from my dinky recipe portfolio to a significant resource for healthful, natural, and holistic living, for positive thinking and a positive relationship with food, and in itself a community for making wellness, through plant based eating and constant motion, accessible to the everyday eater. About a month back, on Monday, November 3rd, 2014, In My Bowl was fortunate enough to hold its second event, The 52nd Gathering, 002. Built around my daily mantras and in celebration of constant movement, natural living, the communal table, and The Movember Foundation’s ‘No Shave November’, we held a creative and playful one-hour vinyasa yoga class with the infinitely talented and empowering 300 hour certified Jivamukti Yoga instructor Krista Block.
Gathering for the sake of celebration and community – with no chaos, no distractions- with a close group of similarly impassioned people, stepping away from our day-to-day and truly and consciously living in and embracing the freedom of a moment was breathtaking. A room packed to the brim with students, friends, throwing themselves out of their daily routines and into this new experience and moment in time for the sake of health and to be part of something bigger than the individual was powerful beyond words. Most importantly because we were able to raise over 200$ for The Movember Foundation while doing it (!). Held in Washington, DC’s only active coffee roastery, Compass Coffee’s bright, spacious, and minimalist atmosphere, lent itself perfectly to the over 50 yoga students, moving and living with passion and purpose. Light bites were provided by CAVA Grill and Mission Bars (think red pepper hummus, spicy harissa, and fresh baked pita chips) with a side of hydrating and nourishing tonics courtesy of Gouter.
The Movember Foundation is the leading global organization committed to changing the face of men’s heath. Over the course of November, men not only grow mustaches to increase awareness and understanding of the health risks men face and spur a conversation about men’s health, but The Movember Foundation uses raised funds to assist men living with prostate or testicular cancer have access to the treatment and care needed to be physically and mentally well.
