The #GoddessVibes // Curator Series promises a carefully selected collection of unbeaten paths, workouts, companies, recipes, colors, and ‘must haves’ to inspire, impassion, and expand our worlds on a daily basis. Founded in April, 2014 on the premise of unconditional self-love, positive thinking, and holistic and natural living-the goal has not only been to spread the vibes around the world-through Instagram snapshots of my life and this curation, highlighting those that truly live up to these values-but, I suppose most pertinently, use this mantra to make vibrant, high quality, and delicious plant-based food nationally (internationally) accessible. Real, unprocessed food is a powerful entity- reducing our risk of ever developing chronic disease and has been shown to holistically treat and reverse the conditions of those suffering. You are, after all, what you eat.
/ charm school chocolate: playfully refined and handcrafted in Baltimore, MD by the aptly charming Chef Joshua Rosen, Charm School Chocolate magically transforms fair trade cocoa beans and organic ingredients into sweet, sophisticated (vegan) bars of perfection. I was (am) particularly drawn to Charm’s coconut milk chocolate with candied pecans bar. Boasting maple cinnamon candied pecans and single origin Belizean cacao, this indulgent bar is on point- especially alongside a dark cup of coffee.
/ compass coffee: the brainchild of Washington, DC native marines Michael Haft and Harrison Suarez, Compass Coffee, serves real good coffee- nothing fancy, nothing too hard to pronounce. Currently the only active coffee roastery in the district, Compass’s bright, spacious, and minimalist cafe, lends itself well to early morning or coffee break gatherings, with booth like tables designed for chatting. Cheers and welcome to the neighborhood guys! (ps // they serve almond milk – my true litmus test for whether any given coffee shop is “current”)
/ for such a time designs: personalized and hand stamped antique silver flatware with a whimsical twist, For Such a TIme Designs, Aly Nicherson’s Austin, TX based business has me swooning. Inspired by the beauty found in special moments- be it everyday gatherings, conversations, or more monumental occasions, and the history hidden within each piece of flatware, Aly uses her talent to capture moments and give something that ‘has been’ another chance at life. With big scooped spoons beckoning ‘HEY SUGAR’ and ‘Hi Coffee, i ummm… Love You’ (and my personalized #GoddessVibes spoon!), who wouldn’t want to collect them all?
/ soupergirl: there are few companies I am more thankful for than Soupergirl- a Washington, DC based (vegan and kosher) soup company. Owned and operated by DC native and soup superhero Sara Polon, Soupergirl makes their soups ‘the old fashioned way’, with recognizable, local, and seasonal ingredients, passionately simmered to brothy perfection. Having undergone upwards of ten extensive oral surgeries over the last eighteen months- Soupergirl not only made my ‘soft-food mandatory’ diet a tolerable existence, but provided the nourishment and amazing flavor I believe were imperative to my recovery.
/ kelly towles: artist, dream chaser, and DC native Kelly Towles has seemingly taken the white washed walls of Washington and given them new life. With expansive, vibrant, and can’t-miss (pseudo dark) murals and installments spattered across the city, stumbling across them can only be compared to finding the golden egg (or a city slicker lemon).
