Happy Cinco De Mayo!
I’ve never shared or really experimented with a cocktail recipe before- most likely because I rarely drink alcohol- but this weekend Andrew and I stumbled upon margarita magic. Call it beginners luck? Sitting on our rooftop under a shining DC sun, entranced by the most intense (and glorious) bout of the giggles, we concocted the Fresh Ginger & Mint-Arita, made with vibrant, overflowing and fresh picked (from our alleyway) spearmint leaves, fragrant ginger root, lime juice, and sparkling ginger beer- heaven. If there was every a time to celebrate..
This bubbly, refreshing, and fresh, fresh, fresh cocktail is indulgent, so here are a few tips to keep your waistline in check while sipping:
#1. Always eat when you drink: during a night of drinking, people end up with soaring blood sugar, followed by a ‘crash’ that leaves them ravenous; counteract this by having dinner or a snack with protein, fiber, and healthy fats before you go out.
#2. Stick to a drink or two, tops: one drink a day is the widely accepted definition of moderate drinking for women, two for men.
#3. Slow your pace: don’t get too tipsy too fast; avoid this by having a tall glass of water with each drink.
#4. Pre-plan your post-drink snack: keep an energy bar or piece of fruit in you bag so you don’t go for the pizza!
#5. Beware that gnawing, starving feeling the next day: avoid this by drinking a big glass of water for every drink you have. Then, before going to bed, have some more, along with a snack that is high in fiber and protein such as high-fiber cereal or oatmeal.
It’s five-o-clock somewhere, cheers!
p.s. PLEASE DRINK RESPONSIBLY !! xxx
