Today I want to introduce you to vegan heaven in a mason jar: Creamy Cacao Avocado Smoothie. Made with creamy avocado, warming cinnamon, and decadent cacao, this raw smoothie will leave you scraping your spoon at the bottom of the jar, wishing for more.
Not only is this smoothie INSANELY delicious, but so nutritious!
As I’ve mentioned in previous chocolatey posts, instead of using refined cocoa powder, I love substituting raw cacao powder. Cacao is considered a superfood because of its extremely rich source of antioxidants, vitamins and minerals. Antioxidants are essential in quenching the free radicals in our bodies linked to cancer, atherosclerosis, and other chronic illnesses (yikes!). Cacao is also one of the highest dietary sources of magnesium which helps maintain healthy nerves, muscles and bones, and sulphur which builds strong nails, hair, and skin. If you’re looking for a quality cacao powder, I recommend using Navitas Naturals; all of their products are non GMO, completely raw, vegan, kosher and organic. Because their cacao is completely raw, none of the nutrients are compromised, proving you with the most nutrient dense supplement. I also love their raw maca powder in my Wake Me Up With Maca, Smoothie.
I top my green smoothie with chopped raw hazelnuts and cacao nibs for an extra decadent crunch.
Creamy Cacao Avocado Smoothie [makes 1 smoothie]
1 medium banana, frozen
¼ avocado, peel removed
1 big handful kale or spinach
1 cup almond milk, or non-dairy milk of choice
1 heaping tablespoon raw cacao (I recommend Navitas Naturals)
½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 heaping teaspoon chlorella, optional (I recommend Organic Burst)
There isn’t much to do for this recipe, but blend and enjoy! Place all of the ingredients in a high speed blender. Blend for about 45 seconds, or until desired consistency is reached. Pour the smoothie into your favorite glass and drink up.
